Gamboa crushes Solis

Atlantic City, NEW JERSEY – On March 26, 2011 in Atlantic City, NJ Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantanamo” Gamboa defeated Jorge “Coloradito” Solis by TKO victory at round 4 at 1:31 and retained his IBF/WBA World Featherweight titles.

On paper, Jorge Solis, looked to be a fighter who might actually have presented as a challenge to Yuriorkis Gamboa. He certainly looked good on paper, with 40 victories, 2 defeats, 2 draws and 1 loss. But it isn't always the size of the resume that counts, but the content that is in it.

Although Gamboa may have only had 19 fights under his belt, it was what he put into those 19 victories that made him stand out above the rest in his weight division. Gamboa is athletic, fierce, determined, focused, exciting and a little reckless inside the ring. This is what draws in large crowds, as well as, favorable odds. He not only attacks an opponent, he annihilates him! He finds a weak spot and takes him down. There are not many fighters with this skill; especially this well-formed. Gamboa is undefeated and in the eyes of everyone appears will remain so until a noteworthy challenger presents himself, such as Juan Manuel Lopez. Maybe then, Gamboa will be the one not left standing.

Until then, we can only focus on the present. During what should have been a 12-round title fight, Gamboa pursued Solis on the outside of the ring. His fast hands and quick feet allowed him to avoid jabs, hooks and body shots as best as he could. I wish that the same could be said about Solis. The moment he entered the ring there was nothing that he could do. Gamboa's lightning fast punches were no match for Solis. They were not only fast, but strong and effective; causing Solis to fall to the canvas 5 times in the course of three rounds (2, 3 & 4); with a stoppage by the referee in round 4 at 1:31. What, if anything, could Solis do? Not much.

Solis may not have been victorious tonight, but he certainly tried his hardest. After the fight, Solis did acknowledge Gamboa's prowess in the ring. Solis stated that although he's had difficult fights in the past such as the one with Manny Pacquiao, they were nothing compared to this fight. And as for Gamboa, he feels that the only one who might be a real challenge to him would be Juan Manuel Lopez. If this fight were to be arranged, he would certainly be up for it. We'll see what his team and promoters have to say about it. Til then, lets just bask in the sun that is: Gamboa!

Garcia wins by TKO to become NABF/NABO Featherweight Champ

On March 26, 2011, Featherweight boxer Miguel Angel Garcia defeated Matt Remillard by TKO at the end of the 10th round, thereby becoming the new NABF/NABO Featherweight champion.

From the beginning until the end of the fight with the exception of the 2nd round, Garcia exerted his dominance in the fight by stalking Remillard around the ring and throwing a series of punches that would stun and baffle him. Garcia would not back down nor would he allow Remillard to take a second to escape or catch his breath for it would have allowed for even the smallest possibility that he could figure out what was happening and give him a chance to regroup and come up with new strategies in the ring.

Throughout the rounds, Remillard's corner kept encouraging him to fight back, but sadly he did not; which would lead to Remillard's eventual loss. Remillard would allow Garcia to attack him and even send him to the canvas at least four times during the fight. This would be the ultimate reason for the stoppage of the fight at the end of the 10th round.

Someone's “O” had to go; and so it was to be, Remillard's. Garcia would be victorious and remain undefeated.
