03/26/11 Zbikowski wins tough fight On Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, NFL Defensive Safety, Tommy Zbikowski beat MMA's Caleb Grummet in a 4-round heavyweight bout by unanimous decision; making him 3-0. Although it was Zbikowski's third professional fight as a boxer, it showed the viewing public that Zbikowski can only move one way; and that is, up. Throughout the match, Zbikowski's traditional boxing style held up well against Grummet's nontraditional MMA fighting style. Zbikowski did not allow Grummet's crude shipyard brawl intimate nor discourage him. Grummet attacked Zbikowski with everything he had round after round; but, like the football player that he is, Zbikowski took the hits and kept on going. He remained calm, collected and focused. But will Zbikowski be able to do this in future, more challenging boxing match-ups? That remains to be seen. But what we do know for now is that, Zbikowski will continue to be a favorite and increase his fan-base. Suehail M. Mercado |

03/26/11 "The Technician" beats "The King" On Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, Teon “The Technician” Kennedy defeated Jorge “The King” Diaz by unanimous decision (115-111, 118-109, 117-109) after a dramatic 12-round Super Bantamweight victory in which both fighters were pushed to perform up to and even above their potential. In the early rounds, Jorge Diaz dominated the fight with his strength, endurance and strong punches to both the head and body of Teon Kennedy. Diaz appeared to have had good control of the fight in fact that one could have assumed Diaz would have been the eventual victor. However, that was, until Kennedy sent Diaz to the mat dazed and confused in the 6th round; from which Diaz would not be able to recover. It was then that Kennedy began to show that he truly is “The Technician.” Just like a technician, Kennedy began to exhibit his noteworthy skills in boxing. He hit Diaz with rights, lefts, hooks and with all he had until Diaz could not come back. The “King” was dethroned. But just like a king, Diaz would not give up without a fight. He would not let his fans see him fall without dignity. Kennedy continued to punish Diaz with a barrage of punches round after round, but Diaz continued to stand his ground until the very end. It was exciting, but was not noteworthy. Diaz would have needed a knockdown to win. Teon Kennedy would be the one to emerge victorious (17-0-1). Suehail M. Mercado |
